Sutton's free supplier directory: how local firms can win developer work
Published 29 October 2026
Big building projects are coming to Sutton, and the council wants more of the work to go to local firms. Sutton Council has launched a free Supplier Directory for small and medium-sized businesses in the borough. It was introduced at the council's first "Meet the Buyer" event.
Who is buying
Developers at the launch included Bugler, Lovell, Socius and Berkeley St George, along with the council's own procurement team. Projects mentioned include:
- The London Cancer Hub in Belmont: a £1 billion expansion with planning consent granted in February 2026, expected to add around a million square feet of lab and research space and about 3,000 jobs.
- Sutton Garden Square: Berkeley St George's town centre scheme on the former B&Q site, with permission for 1,035 homes.
The Federation of Small Businesses, Grow London Local and the Construction Industry Training Board also ran one-to-one sessions with suppliers.
Who should register
The directory is for Sutton-based businesses. The council is particularly keen to hear from firms with three or more employees that do not yet work with major developers. Trades listed include construction, professional services, facilities management, landscaping, transport, manufacturing and IT.
How to register
- Email the council's business team at business@sutton.gov.uk. There is no online form.
- The team guides you through what they need and checks your details.
- They look for matching supply chain opportunities and, with your permission, share your details with buyers.
Registration is free, but it does not guarantee an invitation to tender or a contract. Buyers decide who to contact.
Make a good first impression
When a buyer looks you up, they will search for you online. A clear website, recent photos of your work, reviews and a consistent business listing all help. Add your business to the free skrebe. Sutton directory so there is another trusted place buyers can find you.
