Pubs in Sutton town centre: where to go for real ale, food and sport
Published 31 October 2026
Sutton town centre has a good mix of pubs within a few minutes' walk of each other: big, busy venues near the station, independent locals further down the hill and a few real ale favourites in between. Here is a practical guide to pubs in Sutton town centre and what each one is best for.
Top of the town: Hill Road and the High Street
Moon on the Hill, 5-9 Hill Road. Sutton's Wetherspoon is close to the station and the main shops. It is spread over three levels with patios, and CAMRA lists a large range of regular and changing cask ales. Good for budget-friendly food, groups and a quick pint before a train.
All Bar One, 2 Hill Road. Next door, All Bar One is more of a modern bar for cocktails, wine and food. A popular choice for after-work drinks and birthdays.
The Old Bank, 2 High Street. As the name suggests, this pub occupies a former bank building at the top of the High Street. CAMRA lists several regular cask ales, making it a solid pick if beer quality matters to you.
Middle of the High Street
Shinner & Sudtone, 67 High Street. Run by Portobello Pubs, this pub keeps a rotating selection of cask beers and is one of the better options in the centre for something different on the bar.
O'Neill's, 37 High Street and Rangers, 33 High Street. Both are livelier venues, with Rangers focused on live sport. Good for watching a match with friends.
EBB & Flow and Tiempo Lounge. If you want a cafe-bar feel rather than a traditional pub, both serve drinks from daytime into the evening.
Bottom of the High Street and West Street
The Robin Hood, 52 West Street. An independent, traditional local just off the High Street, serving home-cooked food and cask ale. It hosts live music and quiz nights, has a function room and has been listed as an Asset of Community Value. If you want a proper community pub, start here.
The Winning Post, 265 High Street and The Crown, 285 High Street. Two traditional pubs towards the southern end of the High Street, both popular with regulars and sports fans.
Just outside the centre
- The Little Windsor, 13 Greyhound Road: an independent back-street local with cask ale, a short walk east of the station.
- The Nightingale, 53 Carshalton Road: an independent pub with cask ale, popular with locals.
- Sutton United's clubhouse, Gander Green Lane: serves cask ale and is busy on match days. Read about the 360 Engage Stadium.
A note on closed pubs
Some websites still list pubs that have gone. The Cock & Bull at 26-30 High Street closed in 2020, for example, and a change of use was approved in 2025. If a listing looks old, check before you set off.
Opening hours, menus and prices change. Check the venue's own website or Google listing before you go.
